Learn how to make an iced vanilla chai latte like a barista at home. The secret to a great-tasting Chai is getting a concentrated tea blend.
I love a good chai latte. I enjoy making this drink either hot or cold. Today I’m showing you how I make my simple chai latte.
How to make an Iced Vanilla Chai Latte like a barista?
What will you need?
Ingredients:
- Chai loose leaf (I get my organic masala chai loose leaf from a coffee shop called Lamill).
- Hot water
- Milk
- Vanilla syrup (for sweetness)
- Optional: Tapioca pearls
Note: There a difference between a regular store-bought chai tea compared to a highly concentrated chai tea blend that some specialized coffee or tea shop use. I enjoy buying Chai from grocery stores, but after discovering Lamill’s highly concentrated Chai, I prefer it a little bit more nowadays.
Instructions:
- Take 2 tbsp of loose leaf tea and combine it with hot water. Let the tea steep for about 3 – 5 minutes.
- Then let it cool for a little bit while you prepare a glass cup, ice cubes, milk, and vanilla syrup.
- Strain the Chai into a glass cup. Then add ice cubes.
- Carefully pour the milk and add 1 tbsp of vanilla syrup into the glass cup. (Adjust according to your sweetness level. I use a calorie-free, sugar-free vanilla syrup and it’s sweet, so I only use about 1 tsp).
- Stir and enjoy it!
- Optional: Add tapioca pearls to create a Chai boba latte drink. I use this brand from amazon because it only takes less than five minutes to cook.

Questions you may have:
What is Chai tea?
I learned that saying Chai tea is redundant. The word Chai in Hindi means tea. Chai is made of black tea, usually Assam and spices. The spiced chai ‘tea’ is called Masala Chai in India. That’s why you see the name Masala Chai in some coffee or tea shops menus.
Does masala Chai have caffeine?
Yes, because chai is made of black tea. However, there are some masala Chai blend without caffeine. You have to find one made out of rooibos instead of black tea.
Is Chai healthy?
Yes, there are health benefits from the spices used in the blend, as well as in the black tea. However, there is one thing to consider, and that is if you buy a powdered Chai blend. They have a lot of sugar mixed into the mixture, and it may be unhealthy for you to drink it often.

Yes, and making hot masala Chai latte during rainy days are the best.
What is a dirty Chai latte?
It is a Chai latte drink that contains a single or double shot of espresso. This combination is excellent for coffee and chai lovers.
Why make this Iced Vanilla Chai Latte at home?
You can save $5 – $7 a week, you can control the sweetness level of your drink, and you know what is in your Chai mixture.
I enjoy making a semi-sweet vanilla Chai latte at home, and the blend I get from Lamill helps me know what’s in my Chai mixture. Occasionally, I buy Chai lattes at coffee or tea shops, especially when I travel to the mainland during the fall and winter seasons. The first thing I do when I land is to order a nice hot Chai latte. Yum!
