Adding a cheese foam topping to your favorite homemade cafe drinks will take your beverage experience to the next level. Here are two recipes to follow.
My first time trying a cheese foam was when my friend Sally and I went to Friends Cafe in Honolulu, and she told me to add a cheese foam topping on my drink. She said that cheese tea is a trending drink in China and Taiwan, and its a must-try. I quickly did as she suggested and opted to add a cheese foam topping. As I was trying my drink, I became very intrigued by the combination of flavors. It was like a cheesecake in a foamy texture but on a beverage. It was amazing!
Therefore, this is where today’s blog post comes in. As we are currently and safely staying home during these times. There are moments when I wish I can go to my favorite cafe and order my favorite cheese tea drink or a boba milk tea with a cheese foam topping. In my quest for a cheese foam recipe to make at home, I discovered two ways to create a cheese foam topping.
The first one is the most common recipe over the internet, and the second one is something I sort of created yet also inspired by a regular sweet milk foam topping.
How to Make a Cheese Foam
You will enjoy learning how to make a cheese foam topping at home if you are a milk tea lover like me. It’s effortless and fun, just like making an iced dalgona coffee drink.
1. First Cheese Foam Recipe
This is what you will need:
- 2 oz cream cheese
- 3 tbsp whipping cream
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt
Instructions:
In a medium mixing bowl, add the sugar and cream cheese. Beat on high until smooth and creamy. Add the milk and whipping cream to the mixing bowl. Beat until thick and frothy. Slowly add sea salt and adjust according to desired taste. Serve immediately and enjoy!
The ingredients in this first recipe are what I used in this video. >>
2. Second Recipe
This is my favorite way of making a cheese foam. The first recipe is very delicious, but I am not a fan of the whipping cream’s taste. So, I searched for an alternative method. I came across this milk foam recipe a while back. You take a slightly frozen and chilled evaporated milk and whisk it with condensed milk to create milk foam. I thought, why not add cream cheese to the mixture and it worked! I added a little bit of sea salt, and to my surprise, the final result tasted 99% like the cheese foam I had in some of my favorite cafes.
I learned that cheese foam toppings in most cafes are made with a cheese foam powder. I am unsure what is in it and where to get it, but I learned that most cafes use a powder base because it helps reduce the time it takes them to prepare the drinks.
Here are the ingredients you will need:
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk
- 1 oz cream cheese
- 1 tbsp condensed milk
- 1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt
Instructions:
Combine the evaporated milk and condensed milk and freeze for 20 – 25 minutes. When the sides of the mixture are forming crystallized layers, then it is ready to whisk. Add the cream cheese into the milk mixture. Beat until the color and texture starts to change into a cloud-like form and when the volume doubles. Add the sea salt and adjust according to desired taste. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Thanks for the recipe but mine is liquid like not foam, which step I made wrongly 😭
Do I have to whipped the cream before mixing with creamy cream cheese or together? Thanks

Hi, which recipe did you use? If you used the first recipe, beat the sugar and cream cheese together until soft. Then add the milk and whipping cream after. Whisk all with an electric mixer until it becomes frothy. Hope this helps 🙂
