How to make Thai Iced Tea Latte at Home
I tried an authentic version of this drink at a Thai food vendor during a Chinese New Year festival in Honolulu. While waiting for my drink, the lady who took my order started making it right away; although there was no proper counter set up, she quickly whipped up the Thai tea latte easily in 2 – 3 minutes. After watching her, I thought about trying to learn how to make this delicious drink at home. I was excited, but finding the right ingredients is crucial to creating an authentic Thai Tea Latte. So, here we are today; this blog post is the result of my findings.

Questions you may have:
What is the Thai loose leaf tea that restaurant and boba cafe use?
I learned that a Thai tea mix called Pantai is a popular tea mix blend that most Thai restaurants and boba shops use. I bought mine from Hmart, a Korean grocery store.
What makes the bright color orange?
It is from the red and yellow food coloring that’s added to Thai tea mix. When you brew fresh Thai tea, it comes out dark orange, and after you mix the milk, it turns into bright orange.
Is there caffeine in Thai tea?
Yes, because the Thai tea mix contains black tea in the mixture. Assam tea is commonly used.
What other tips do you need when creating authentic Thai iced tea?
- Use crushed ice or smaller ice cubes instead of regular-sized ice cubes. (I just recently discovered this tip from my friends). An easier way to crush your ice is using a blender. However, in my pictures, I opted to use tiny ice cubes.
- To make Thai restaurant-style iced tea, you must use condensed milk and evaporated milk to sweeten it.
