Are you looking for an egg and dairy-free french toast? Try this easy vegan french toast recipe that tastes just like the classic we remember.
I started looking for alternative recipes for the breakfast classics I used to enjoy growing up. This change began as I became aware of what ingredients my husband and I are sensitive to. Although there are a lot of wonderful recipes on the internet, I wanted to create a recipe that incorporates what I already have in the kitchen. And surprisingly, this vegan french toast is very easy to make. I am now sure to add this to our kitchen recipe cards!
How to easily make a Vegan French Toast that’s eggless and dairy-free?
Ingredients:
- Bread – Use your favorite type of bread, especially the one about to go stale.
- JUST Egg – A great vegan egg substitute!
- Cinnamon powder – A delicious add-on for flavor and has antioxidants properties.
- Brown sugar – This is to sweeten the French toast.
- Oat Milk – A dairy-free alternative.
- Plant-based butter – A new favorite discovery! I like to use Country Crock plant butter.
- Maple syrup – A favorite syrup on French toasts.
- Powdered sugar – This topping makes everything pretty!
- Assorted fresh berries – I used blueberries and raspberries, but you can add any fruits.
Instructions:
Whisk all ingredients together on a wide, deep plate. Take your favorite bread and soak the slices until both sides are fully coated. Prepare the skillet by warming it over medium heat and adding the plant-based butter. Once ready, cook each bread piece until both sides are golden browned. Serve immediately with delicious toppings!
What is JUST Egg?
Just Egg is a vegan egg substitute. My mother-in-law introduced this brand to us and it has become a life-changer ever since. One of the primary ingredients is mung beans. I like it because it saves a lot of time creating egg alternatives from scratch and when you cook it, sometimes you are amazed at how much it resembles real eggs.
Why do you use Keto bread?
I used Keto bread because it’s what we have in our pantry, especially since my husband is on a low-carb/keto diet suggested by his doctors.
There are great benefits of sharing this bread with my husband: it’s low in calories and carbohydrates and high in protein and fiber.
What is the best bread to use?
I have seen my family use ciabatta bread or a loaf of bread that you know is drier in texture. They are great because they absorb the vegan egg mixture the best. Make sure they are made with plant-based ingredients. You can also make this recipe gluten-free by purchasing gluten-free bread.
How to store French Toast leftovers?
You can store leftover French Toast in a sealed container for 3 -5 days in the refrigerator. Reheat using a skillet or a microwave for about 1 – 2 minutes.
Fun fact:
JUST Egg can be keto-friendly as long as you are mindful of the servings and it fits your carbohydrate limit.
