Learn how to make delicious Dalgona (Whipped, Frothy) Coffee in seconds, a no-fuss ice coffee drink that everyone is trying!
We started noticing the Dalgona whipped or frothy coffee drink on the internet around March of this year. Later in the month, it gained so much popularity on every social media channel we could think of.
This drink now also has many different variations, such as mocha, caramel, matcha, strawberry, and much more. The main thing that attracts us to trying this drink is the process of creating it. You take simple ingredients and whisk them together. The outcome is a delicious looking frothy coffee texture that gives you a cafe-like drink that you can enjoy at home.
What is Dalgona Coffee?
It is a coffee drink made from instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk. You take a whisk, milk frother, or an electric mixer to whisk all the ingredients to create a whipped frothy coffee topped over ice.
Why is it called Dalgona?
The name Dalgona came from South Korea. The fluffy whipped coffee texture looks like dalgona candy, which is a honeycomb toffee or sponge toffee candy.
How do you make Dalgona Coffee?
The reason why Dalgona coffee is famous is that you can make it in seconds. The ratio is equal parts of coffee, sugar, and hot water.
What you will need:
- Instant Coffee
- Sugar
- Hot water
- Milk – Zach’s favorite way to drink Dalgona coffee is with oat milk
- Whisk, milk frother, or electric mixer
Instructions:
Mix instant coffee, sugar, and hot water in a bowl. Whisk, or use a milk frother or electric mixer to whip until light and frothy. Fill a glass cup with ice and pour in the milk. Then top with whipped frothy coffee and enjoy!
Can I use any instant coffee brand?
Yes, you can. Just be aware some brands are a little bitter. Nescafe has been known to have invented frappe coffee; therefore, their instant coffee froths the best. I have the Nescafe in French Roast and it’s good.
Can I use any milk?
Yes, the original recipe from what I see other people are making may have been with whole milk, but you can use any milk, and it will taste just as good. Zach’s favorite is oat milk.
Can I use any sugar?
It easiest to whip with white granulated sugar, but you can also use brown sugar or honey.
I don’t have a whisk, milk frother or electric mixer, what should I do?
You can put the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water in an airtight container and shake it until its fluffy. The texture won’t look the same but it will do the job.
How much caffeine is in this recipe?
There is a lot of caffeine in this recipe because it’s 2 tbsp of instant coffee. It is also for two servings that you can share with a friend, family, and love one.
You can cut it into half and use 1 tbsp of instant coffee, 1 tbsp of sugar, and 2 tbsp of hot water for a single serving. The extra tablespoon of hot water can help make the dalgona coffee fluffier.
