Learn how to make the popular Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Latte easily at home.
I was browsing Tik Tok one day, and a Starbucks tutorial caught my attention. I was intrigued by what it was and saw that a Starbucks barista was making the new Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso latte drink. As a former barista who loves recreating drink recipes at home, I thought I had to try this out. Plus, there was cinnamon involve, and I love anything with cinnamon.
How to make an Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso at Home
One of my favorite syrups to make at home is brown sugar syrup. I modified this recipe to be very flavorful by substituting the third tbsp of dark brown sugar with Muscovado sugar, but if you don’t have this, continue with all three tbsp of regular brown sugar.
Here’s what you will need:
Ingredients:
Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup
- Dark brown sugar
- Muscovado sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Cinnamon powder
- Water
Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Latte
- Ice cubes
- Shot of espresso
- Brown sugar cinnamon syrup
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Your favorite milk
Instructions:
Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup
Add all the ingredients in a small pot and let it simmer on a low to medium heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup has slightly thickened. Then gradually turn the heat down until ready. Remove from heat and set aside to cool while you prepare the other ingredients.
Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Latte
Brew a shot of espresso. Take a drink shaker or a mason jar with a lid and add alot of ice cubes, a shot of espresso, 0.5 oz of brown sugar cinnamon syrup, and a pinch of cinnamon powder. Secure the lid and firmly hold the shaker with both hands. Then shake vigorously for 30 – 40 seconds. Take a glass cup and add a few more ice cubes. Add your favorite milk (or oat milk for an at-home Starbucks drink) over the ice cubes. And carefully pour the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso mixture over the milk. Stir and enjoy!
Questions you may have:
How many ounces per serving?
The serving size is about 16oz. If you order from a cafe, it would be a medium-sized drink.
Why is the drink called Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Latte?
It’s because you will need to hand-shake the main ingredients together to get the unique frothy texture. This drink will take your iced coffee or single shot of espresso on ice to the next level.
How to create the iconic oat milk version of the drink?
To create the iconic Iced Brown Sugar Oat milk Shaken Espresso, you will need the Starbucks blonde espresso shot and Oatly oat milk. Make the brown sugar syrup simple with regular brown sugar, water, and vanilla extract. Then add the cinnamon once you combine all the ingredients in the drink shaker.
Update: Hi guys! It’s a new year and guess what? This iconic drink is now one of Starbucks’ main drinks to order! So, I recreated a copycat version to enjoy at home. However, I made mine with a lot of oat milk, so it’s a little bit like a latte instead 😂 . But if you add more ice and just a splash of oat milk, then you’ll get the low-calorie favorite that you see from Starbucks. I used the same recipe from this post, but the way you prepare it is a little different 😊. I hope you like this recipe and enjoy it!
What is Muscovado sugar?
Muscovado sugar is known as artisanal sugar. It is an unrefined cane sugar with rich brown color and moist sand-like texture. It contains natural molasses, which gives it a hint of toffee-like flavor.
I don’t have a drink shaker; what alternatives can I use?
You can use any glass jar you have in the kitchen with a lid, such as a clean empty Alfredo sauce jar or a mason jar.
